What is the statute of limitations?
The statute of limitations is the amount of time in which an injured individual is legally entitled to pursue compensation from the person or group responsible for his or her damages. In Texas, the statute of limitations is 2 years for all personal injury cases, except for certain rare circumstances. However, this does not necessarily mean that legal action must be undertaken two years after an injury occurred. For example, in medical malpractice cases, the injury may not become apparent until several years later. In these situations, the statute of limitations would only begin once the injury and its cause became apparent.
