Two killed in Fort Worth car accident

Fire department officials reported that a two-vehicle collision at around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, August 3 in one of the center lanes of southbound Loop 820 West, near White Settlement Road in Fort Worth, Texas caused the death of two individuals.

According to fire department spokesman Kyle Clay, the accident occurred when a Chevrolet Malibu developed a flat tire. Because of this problem, the vehicle came to a stop in one of the roadway’s center lanes, at which point a sport utility vehicle rear-ended the Malibu.

Two individuals were sitting in the back seat of the Malibu when it was hit, resulting in fatal injuries. One individual was pronounced dead at the scene while the other died after being taken to the hospital. Two other individuals involved in the accident were taken to area hospitals to receive treatment for minor, non-life threatening injuries. Authorities have stated that they are not sure how fast the SUV was traveling when it struck the Chevy Malibu.

Texas A&M University-Texarkana student dies in car accident

A student at Texas A&M University-Texarkana in Texarkana, TX was killed in a car accident on Thursday, July 16, according to an email from the university’s president, Emily Cutrer.

The victim was identified as Ana Arellano, an undergraduate student from Horatio, Arkansas and who was supposed to be returning to the university this fall as a sophomore.

Cutrer said that the “loss comes at a time that our campus is still healing from November’s tragic accident” wherein three college students – one of whom was Daniel Gonzalez and was “a very close friend of Ana’s” – were killed on Interstate 30 when their car was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler.

Cutrer is inviting those who feel inclined to help to donate financial assistance for Arellano’s burial expenses by contacting LeAnne Wright at LeAnne.Wright@tamut.edu.

5 Dead and 12 Injured in Fort Worth Accident

Two related accidents on Interstate 30 outside of Fort Worth left 5 people dead and 12 injured early Sunday morning. An initial single vehicle accident was reported at 2:30 a.m. when a car veered off the road and into a concrete barrier. Other drivers on the road pulled over to help the victim of the first crash, blocking lanes on the freeway, when an 18-wheeler crashed into the good Samaritans and 9 stopped vehicles.

Four people were pronounced dead at the scene and one individual later died in the hospital from fatal injuries. MedStar sent eight units to the scene, along with several ambulances. Twelve people in all were sent to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, at the time carrying the Sunday edition of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reportedly was unable to break in time to avoid the crash. The westbound freeway was closed around Oakland Blvd. for several hours following the accident as police and other officials ascertained the cause of the crash.

Our condolences go out to all affected by this tragic incident.
